Engaging Students--Use of Active Learning Activities to Enhance Student Learning in an Introductory Managerial Accounting Course
Handy, Sheila A.; Polimeni, Ralph S.
Journal of Applied Research for Business Instruction, v13 n3 2015
Active learning is increasing in popularity as a supplement to the lecture-only method of class presentation in many disciplines, including accounting. This paper defines and discusses the benefits of active learning and presents seven different active-learning activities developed and used by the authors. The active learning activities mainly apply to an introductory managerial accounting course. The learning goals of many of the active learning activities presented in this paper are to enhance the student's skills in critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, teamwork, leadership, and communication.
