Online School Psychology: Blueprint to Higher Education Conversations
Dixon, Robert J.
Communique, v46 n6 p16, 18 Mar-Apr 2018
The author is convinced that the school psychology profession needs to develop innovative programs to address the shortages of school psychologists across the nation, specifically, online programs that can reach the rural and underserved districts of each state. Current educators seeking to expand their skill set can be the untapped answer to meeting the shortage needs. Unfortunately, most educators are land-locked in a district, usually far from the university, with well-paying jobs, family responsibilities, and deepening roots in the community too good to abandon. It is too much of an expectation for these individuals to uproot everything, enter a program, and incur a large student debt to enter the profession. The author thinks the profession has to bring school psychology to these individuals. In this article, he proposes some steps that can be used to navigate the development of online training opportunities.
