The Invention Notebook Challenge
Roman, Harry T.
Technology and Engineering Teacher, v77 n6 p41-43 Mar 2018
Like scientists who keep lab notebooks detailing their experiments, inventors keep invention notebooks that chronologically detail the inception, development, and refinement of their inventions. These notebooks are legal documents that can help prove one inventor's precedent over another. Scenarios like these are very real, as the author has had to defend his rights to two inventions in a federal court of law. There are also many academic benefits to keeping an invention notebook, including powerful school-to-work skills instilled in those who carefully document their work. This article provides ideas that teachers can use when implementing the use of invention notebooks in their classrooms.
