From Life in the Gutter to a Pedagogy of Freedom: The Importance of Learning from Young People
Brion-Meisels, Gretchen A.
Berkeley Review of Education, v2 n1 p109-123 Jan 2011
This article is a response to "Living in the Gutter: Conflict and Contradiction in the Neoliberal Classroom, A Call to Action" (2011, this volume). Among other critical insights, Ayers and Ayers argue that conversations about educational reform must be framed in ways that center education for democracy. Here, the author builds on this argument by suggesting that young people must be fully welcomed and involved in the construction of this alternative frame.
