Attitudes toward "Open Marriage" Among College Students as Influenced by Place of Residence
Hollander, Elaine K.; Vollmer, Howard M.
Youth and Society, 6, 1, 3-21, Sep 74
In a pilot study conducted on a sample of predominantly white, middle-class students in a mid-Atlantic private university, the relationship between residential environment and attitudes toward marriage was explored. The study demonstrated an affinity between cohabitation before marriage or living in communal groups and belief in equalitarian sex roles and non-possessive independence that are inherent in the concept of "Open Marriage".
