A critical assessment of the potential impact and ideological implications of the large scale introduction of television to the Ivory Coast, as a reinforcer of the attitudes of the dominant elite educated abroad and a bastion of urbanity and middle class influence as opposed to the nurturing of traditional indigenous culture. Also considered is the role of the French and the French language in the educational process. (EH)
