Creating Science Websites

Building a website allows students to find and evaluate resources, pose and answer scientific questions, and connect class content to real-world problems and possible solutions. Writing explanations for a particular audience, instead of only the teacher, requires students to state concepts clearly, leading to increased comprehension. Finding the most exciting aspects of a topic engages students in the issues they research and fosters collaboration with other students and the wider community (Tierney 2004). Many science teachers use project-based learning, in which students choose real-world problems to explore, explain, and solve (Strobel and van Barneveld 2009). Designing a website fits perfectly into this framework.
