Introducing Evolution into the Primary Curriculum
Scrase, Stuart
Primary Science, n140 p8-9 Nov 2015
The new National Curriculum for England requirements for primary science have created a few challenges and opportunities for primary schools. Implementation was not compulsory for year 6 (ages 10-11) until September 2015, but at the primary school in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets educators decided, as did many other primary schools, to start implementation in September 2014 to ensure preparation. In this article, the author, a year 6 teacher and science coordinator at a Tower Hamlet's Primary School, reflects on teaching evolution for the first time.
