Pencil-Free Homework: Worth Considering?
Forster, Colin
Primary Science, n144 p24-26 Sep 2016
After spending most of the day in school, children are typically given additional assignments to be completed at home. The author and colleagues developed a series of science homework tasks for use in primary schools. The difference with these homework tasks, however, was that they were pencil-free: no blank spaces for the children to fill in and no writing required! The rationale for these was to offer schools an alternative to paper-and-pencil homework and to try to align what is known about good learning in science with what children are asked to do for homework in science. Some examples are presented in this article.
