Journal of Faculty Development, v31 n3 p15-24 Sep 2017
Faculty Development (FD) is a vital component across the medical education continuum of undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education. However, the positioning of FD in medical institutions varies widely. The perceptions of faculty on FD should be examined in order to provide effective FD. The perceptions of faculty involved in administration/teaching and residents (n = 82) on FD were collected via semi-structured interviews and surveys. The results showed FD perceptions differed based on the participant's role in their medical school. The study reiterates the important need for medical schools to prioritize and customize FD according to individual needs by using multiple approaches.
