Rocks Can Wow? Yes, Rocks Can Wow!
Hardman, Sally; Luke, Sue
Primary Science, n145 p28-30 Nov 2016
Rocks and fossils appear in the National Curriculum of England science programmes of study for children in year 3 (ages 7-8). A frequently asked question is "How do you make the classification of rocks engaging?" In response to this request from a school, a set of interactive activities was designed and organised by tutors and students from the University of Winchester. The plan was that the children would rotate around a set of "discovery stations" throughout an afternoon, logging their visit to each activity on a science passport. The authors take a look at how you can wow with rocks and bring fossils to life using discovery stations.
