Topical, Yes, but It Dives beneath the Surface
Tyler, Paul
Primary Science, n149 p5-8 Sep 2017
Topical science is about developing an awareness of science issues in the news and the importance of science stories that affect pupils' lives and the world around them. It is about making science relevant for pupils and engaging them in the subject. The author explores how children can be engaged and inspired through topical science. The idea of using relevant stories to give science a context is not new but recent curricular developments have formalised the idea of topical science as a core part of the science curriculum in Scotland.
