Learning to Talk
Greygoose, Kristin
Primary Science, n142 p5-7 Mar 2016
As science subject leader, the author wanted to explore pupil questioning in the early years and find a lesson format that could be replicated throughout the school to engage all the children in regular short discussions focusing on science enquiry. The author planned a weekly programme of 30-minute "Science Talk" sessions with one of the reception classes (ages 3 and 4) with three key aims: (1) to develop the children's questioning skills; (2) to improve their scientific literacy; and (3) to develop their confidence in using scientific enquiry skills. These sessions are discussed in this article.
