An examination of Synanon's innovative experiment in collective child rearing and education which includes a detailed description of the Synanon School, including its history and development, organization, and census data on its resident children. Special emphasis is placed on Synanon as a new, emerging self-contained community, the extensive use of small group processes, and the utilization of many adults as parenting figures. (Author/EH)
