A demand is issued for the establishment of a new profession of human services, outlining its assumptions based on a client/consumer/citizen model of service delivery. The reworking of cherished myths concerning concepts of unique professional knowledge, practictioner autonomy, and ideal models of service are illustrated with examples drawn from the experiences of students and staff at the College for Human Services.
