Classroom to Community: Field Studies for Exercise Science Students
Melton, Deana; Dail, Teresa K.
Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance, v88 n6 p21-25 2017
The field of kinesiology has seen growth in terms of the number of highly specialized subdisciplines, such as exercise physiology, motor learning, biomechanics, sport and exercise psychology, and fitness management. While some undergraduate students may be comfortable with a chosen concentration, others may enter the kinesiology curriculum lacking knowledge about these subdisciplines. This article establishes a rationale for field studies, or abbreviated out-of-class experiences, that can address this problem. Strategies for implementation are also provided.
