Childhood Immunization: A Key Component of Early Childhood Development
Messonnier, Nancy
ZERO TO THREE, v37 n6 p45-49 Jul 2017
Physical health is a key component of early childhood development and school readiness. By keeping children healthy and decreasing the chances of disease outbreaks, immunizations help early childhood programs create a safe environment for children. While overall vaccination rates are high nationally for most vaccines routinely recommended for toddlers, vaccination coverage varies by state, and there are still opportunities for improvement. There are several ways that early childhood programs can promote on-time vaccination of infants and young children. These include ensuring that staff members can help families understand state vaccination requirements and can address parent concerns with sensitivity.
