"Better English Is the Better Mind": Influence of Language Skills on Sense of Belonging in Chinese International Students
Yao, Christina W.
Journal of College and University Student Housing, v43 n1 p74-89 2016
Chinese students are currently the largest international student population in the United States (UNESCO Institute for Statistics, 2014). However, little research exists on these particular students' lived experiences with language and interactions with domestic students and how these experiences affect their sense of belonging in residence halls. This study illuminates the experiences affecting first-year Chinese international students' sense of belonging and provides insights on how these students perceive the interactions with domestic students within their new collegiate "home."
