Tie Goes to the Runner: The Physics and Psychology of a Close Play
Starling, David J.; Starling, Sarah J.
Physics Teacher, v55 n4 p200-203 Apr 2017
Since physics is often a service course for college students, it is important to incorporate everyday examples in the curriculum that inspire students of diverse backgrounds and interests. In this regard, baseball has been a workhorse for the physics classroom for a long time, taking the form of demonstrations and example problems. In this article, the authors discuss how baseball can help bridge the physical and social sciences in an introductory physics course by analyzing a close play at first base.
