AAFCS Resources for Elevating Research and Scholarship in FCS
Myers, Lori A.
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v109 n1 p21-25 Win 2017
Elevating research and supporting scholarship are both a responsibility and core value of all family and consumer sciences (FCS) professionals. This responsibility may involve: (1) Introducing the research process under graduate students; (2) Guiding the research of graduate students; (3) Mentoring a junior faculty member to establish a research focus; (4) Participating in a research project; (5) Conducting action research in an educational or community-based program; (6) Authoring a manuscript to disseminate research findings; or (7) Serving as the principal investigator of a funded project. The American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) accepts that responsibility and strives to "provide leadership and support for professionals whose work assists individuals, families, and communities in making informed decisions about their well-being, relationships, and resources to achieve optimal quality of life" (AAFCS, 2016a). This article describes the work of the Family and Consumer Sciences Research Center which was envisioned as a "catalyst, convener, and conduit for research" (Shockey, 2011, p. 10). A primary tool to achieve its purpose was the development of a website to serve as a hub of research information and resources. Officially launched in 2014, the Family and Consumer Sciences Research Center website (http://www.aafcs. org/ResearchCenter/index.asp) provides access and links to resources in the following areas: (1) Authors & Reviewers, (2) Research Journals, (3) Research Funding, (4) Research Tools, and (5) Research Briefs.
