Smith, Bettye P.; Yang, Wenting
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v109 n1 p43-50 Win 2017
The purpose of this study was to determine the intercultural learning outcomes for students in the Interdisciplinary Ghana Study Abroad Program. Data were collected from 28 students using the Intercultural Learning Outcomes (ILO) questionnaire containing 29 statements and 5 content domains (functional knowledge, world geography knowledge, interpersonal accommodation knowledge, global interdependence knowledge, and cultural sensitivity knowledge). Data were collected before engaging in and after completing the short-term program. Overall mean ratings showed that 83% of the 29 statements increased from pretest to posttest whereas none of the statements experienced a decrease in ratings. Paired t test revealed that a significant increase occurred in mean ratings for two content domains--functional knowledge and knowledge of global interdependence.
