Extending the Shoreline of Wonder through the Research Attic of J. Terry Gates
Kuebel, Christa
Contributions to Music Education, v42 p223-226 2017
This article is a review of the Ohio Music Education Association Graduate Research Forum presentation from February 2017 in Cleveland. Each year, an expert in the field of music education is invited to the state conference to discuss research, practice, teaching, and learning. The presenter was Dr. J. Terry Gates of "The Hoenny Center for Research and Development in Teaching." He has worked in K12 and collegiate music education settings for more than 50 years, from New York to Illinois to Missouri. In his presentation, Dr. Gates shared four areas of research he hoped would continue with the next generation of music researchers and educators: assessing affect, participation theory, historical research, and pre-service teacher development.
