Stepping over the Line: Applying the Theories of Adult Learning in a GED Math Class
Bates, Lisa
Journal of Research and Practice for Adult Literacy, Secondary, and Basic Education, v6 n1 p40-44 Spr 2017
This article describes the author's determination to incorporate learner-focused teaching techniques and explore ways to adapt them with GED math learners. The primary goal was to find ways of getting students to participate more in the classroom. This was a first step towards building community and learning as they worked together. After a few attempts, failures and stumbling into ways of incorporating facilitation and collaborative learning into the math class curriculum, the adult learners have created a collaborative and supportive learning environment in the classroom where all are solvers of math problems.
