Illiad, Rapid, and an Unmediated Solution to the Interlibrary Loan Textbook Dilemma
McNeil, Erika Hanson
Journal of Access Services, v14 n2 p68-79 2017
As the cost of textbooks rises and discoverability of resources improves, students are turning more and more to interlibrary loan to meet their textbook needs. This article describes how systems can be utilized to streamline processes and allow for the canceling of textbook requests consistently and appropriately by taking full advantage of the capabilities of ILLiad and Rapid, saving both staff time and money. This article looks at how a large research university made the decision to implement a textbook policy and how it navigated the troubled waters to come to a simple, unmediated solution.
