Using Blogging to Engage College Parents and Families--and How That Can Impact Your Institution's Bottom Line
Chapman, Betsy
College and University, v92 n1 p55-60 Mar 2017
Fifty years ago, the existence of a dedicated parent/ family relations office at a college or university was a rare thing. Parents were not considered as involved a constituency as students, faculty, staff, or alumni. Freestanding parent and family relations offices are a relatively recent development. Many institutions have been working diligently to involve parents and families in ways that are productive and appropriate to their students' development. This article considers the rise of parent/family relations offices, trends in parent communications, and the remarkable impact of a strong parent communications program at Wake Forest University. Additionally, tips are offered for starting a parent/family blog at an institution.
