Nudges, Pulls, and Serendipity: Multiple Pathways to Faculty Development
Stockley, Denise; McDonald, Jeanette; Hoessler, Carolyn
Journal of Faculty Development, v29 n3 p61-6 Sep 2015
Building on the rich faculty development literature worldwide, recent scholarship on the advancement, professionalism, and career paths of individuals entering the field has received greater attention. Through focus group discussions, faculty developers from colleges and universities around the world shared their pathways into and through faculty development. Flowing from their stories, four themes evolved: how these faculty developers conceived of their roles; how they gained awareness of and entry to the field; when they initially self-identified as faculty developers; and what sustains their practice despite tensions. We conclude with considerations for and reflections on growing and sustaining the faculty development community.
