Promoted from Within: Preparing Beginning Educational Leaders for Executive Loneliness That Occurs in Their New Position
Nichols, Joe; McBride, Jackie
College Student Journal, v51 n1 p47-56 Spr 2017
This was a study conducted with four first-year educational leaders who were interviewed to determine whether they experienced feelings of isolation and disengagement from individuals who had been peers in the work-place. Each respondent was promoted from within their educational organization to a leadership position and was interviewed to determine the extent, if any, that feelings of isolation and loneliness occurred in their initial year of educational leadership. One individual experienced very limited feelings of isolation while three individuals experienced significant disengagements in surprisingly different forms.
