Developing Open Mindedness for Coaching Expertise
Strand, Bradford; Christofferson, Jennifer
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v30 n2 p17-21 2017
Effective coaches have the ability to recognize and use their athletes' strengths while at the same time finding ways to improve their weaknesses. An essential part of coaching effectiveness and expertise is a coach's ability to be introspective and reflective with an "open mind" that allows him or her to critically look back at past experiences, recognize weaknesses, and revise techniques when necessary. This article presents eight concepts of open mindedness that can help a coach to develop expertise.
