Miller, Kevin
Themes in Science and Technology Education, v8 n1 p5-16 2015
In this article, the author describes technology used with children or students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. Specifically, three technological developments are highlighted: cochlear implants, universal newborn infant hearing screening, and telepractice. The positive impact of each type of technology on students who are deaf or hard-of-hearing is described with an emphasis on the development of speech, language, and hearing skills. In addition, the use of these technologies beyond the United States of America is discussed. Furthermore, current limitations of each type of technology are noted.
