Moving from the Membranes: Exploring the Integumentary System through Experiential Anatomy and Dance
Kirk, Johanna
Journal of Dance Education, v17 n1 p8-15 2017
This article outlines a somatic-based class that illustrates how the integumentary system can be introduced to dance students to further their understanding of their physical instruments. It justifies why incorporating information about specific biological systems into dance teaching is apt and beneficial for dancers, and it describes how guided exercises that incorporate anatomical and physiological information can inspire rich somatic and creative exploration.
