From Failing to Thriving: Infant Mental Health Intervention for a Nonorganic Failure to Thrive Diagnosis
Sipotz, Kelly
ZERO TO THREE, v35 n6 p38-42 Jul 2015
This article describes an intense relationship between an infant mental health (IMH) specialist and a mother-daughter dyad. At intake, an 18-month-old little girl was diagnosed with failure to thrive and a chronic kidney condition, and she was at risk for protective service involvement and possible removal from the family home. The author describes an intervention process of listening, supporting, advocating, and allowing all individuals to be seen and understood. The intervention supported the mother-daughter relationship, and they both started thriving.
