Online Portfolios: Marketing Apparel Merchandising Millennials into Employment
Keist, Carmen N.; Bruer, Shanna
Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences, v108 n2 p54-57 2016
In a sea of applicant uniformity, how can an undergraduate student develop a means of personal differentiation while attempting to land an internship or job? That is the dilemma of the roughly 1.9 million Millennials graduating with bachelor's degrees within the United States in 2015 (Hussar & Bailey, 2015). Although the national unemployment rate is approximately 5%, Millennials are struggling with numbers upward of 14%. This situation analysis is not meant to further distress those seeking employment, but is intended to help them by posing the question, "How can you develop your personal brand and create a distinct or differentiated offering for potential employers?" Our answer: the online portfolio, or e-portfolio.
