Science 2.0: Developing the Knowledge Constructor
Smith, Ben; Mader, Jared
Science Teacher, v83 n9 p10 Dec 2016
In this column, the authors describe the International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE) Knowledge Constructor Standard. When students become a Knowledge Constructor, they should be able to synthesize science information from a variety of resources into a representation of their understanding. Students must meet four performance indicators to achieve this skill: (1) plan and employ effective research strategies to locate information and other resources for their intellectual or creative pursuits; (2) evaluate the accuracy, perspective, credibility, and relevance of information, media, data, or other resources; (3) curate information from digital resources using a variety of tools and methods to create collections of artifacts that demonstrate meaningful connections or conclusions; and (4) build knowledge by actively exploring real-world issues and problems, developing ideas and theories in pursuing answers and solutions.
