An Experiential Approach to Clinical Supervision Training: A Mixed Methods Evaluation of Effectiveness
Fisher, Amy Killen; Simmons, Christopher; Allen, Susan C.
Journal of Teaching in Social Work, v36 n5 p460-476 2016
This study evaluates an intensive experiential exercise designed to facilitate the provision of high-quality supervision in social work. Data from 46 BSW and MSW students suggest that the exercise can be an effective learning tool. Both quantitative and qualitative findings indicated that the students formed a supervisory working alliance; BSW students were satisfied with their supervisor; and that the approach met the goals of teaching MSW students to go beyond thinking of supervision as solely an administrative task. An overview and rationale for the exercise are included.
