As one of the 30 community college presidents taking part in the American Association of Community Colleges' (AACC) Pathways Project, El Paso Community College (EPCC) President William Serrata is learning from coaches and national experts at each of six Pathways Institutes run by AACC. He also has a key state-level resource that allows him to double the capacity of his institution to develop guided student pathways toward a four-year college or a career. Operating out of the Texas Association of Community Colleges, the Texas Success Center helps the state's 50 community colleges learn from each other and leverage best practices as they work to improve student success and completion rates. As part of these efforts, the center will hold its own Pathways Institutes that will mirror what AACC is doing with its Pathways Project, but on a local scale. Texas is one of 13 states with a Student Success Center. Coordinated by Jobs for the Future (JFF) and funded by the Kresge Foundation, among other backers, these centers are supporting student success initiatives at their local community colleges in many ways--and amplifying the work that AACC is doing to create guided pathways is one of them.
