Architects of Change: Writing Enhanced Course Program Development and Core Reform
Anstendig, Linda; Richie, Eugene; Young, Shannon; Mosley, Pauline; Kirschstein, Bette
Across the Disciplines, v1 Oct 2004
This paper reports on the synergisms that developed as the authors' university-wide Writing Enhanced Course (WEC) Program was implemented with their university's new core curriculum. The authors evaluate the Pilot Program model of their WEC Program and suggest the directions they plan to take now that the Program is firmly established within the Core curriculum. This paper offers the perspectives of the two co-directors, two writing consultants, and one participating professor who used extensive WE techniques in a computer programming course. The authors also highlight the need to continually review, assess, and revise the Program, especially the essential elements of the design of the WEC workshops and effective interaction between writing consultants and faculty teaching WE courses.
