Field of Gifted Dreams: An Interview with Susan Assouline

Susan G. Assouline is the director of the Belin-Blank Center, holds the Myron and Jacqueline N. Blank Endowed Chair in Gifted Education, and is a professor of school psychology. She received her BS in general science with a teaching endorsement, her EdS in school psychology, and her PhD in psychological and quantitative foundations, all from the University of Iowa. Upon completion of her doctorate, she was awarded a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Study of Mathematically Precocious Youth (SMPY) at Johns Hopkins University and upon completion joined the Belin-Blank Center staff in 1990. She is especially interested in the identification of academic talent in elementary students and is coauthor (with Ann LupkowskiShoplik) of both editions of "Developing Math Talent: A Comprehensive Guide to Math Education for Gifted Students in Elementary and Middle School." In this interview Susan discusses her career, what lead her there, and where it is going.
