This article begins by drawing on literature to examine the various definitions of "technology" and "technique." Following a discussion of the origin of technology in education, the remaining sections of the article focus on the relationships and interaction between: (1) machines and technique; (2) science and technique; (3) organization and technique; (4) technical operation and technical phenomenon; (5) technique and culture; and (6) technique and society. The article concludes by reinforcing how important it is for educators to know the meaning of technology and understand how it can be helpful for education.
