Promising College and Workforce Partnerships: Connecting Students with Careers
Murray, Corey
Community College Journal, v84 n3 30-33 Dec 2013-Jan 2014
"The Road to Recovery: Projecting U.S. Job Growth and Higher Education Demand through 2020" (this issue, p26-29) presented six key indicators that highlighted the latest in education and employment needs for the success of the future jobs market. While the U.S. economy is growing, questions still remain: What skills do employers value most? How are higher education programs helping students prepare for the workforce? What additional training is available for the middle-skill worker who is essential to the continued success of the growing economy? In this accompanying article, Corey Murray describes programs from community colleges around the country that are using online and blended degree programs, partnerships with business, and other initiatives to prepare graduates to meet the challenges of the marketplace. Murray also includes thoughts from industry leaders who weigh in on the importance of working with community colleges to improve workforce opportunities for the middle-skills worker.
