Joanne Foster's article "R We There Yet?" was first published in "Parenting for High Potential" ("PHP") in 2006, which became the springboard for the "ABCs of Being Smart" series of columns. At that time, Foster invited "PHP" readers to think about their own versions of the "ABCs of Being Smart." Judie Becker, a parent from Leawood, Kansas, responded to the invitation by choosing the letter "S" and writing a guest column. Her submission was subsequently published in "PHP" in 2007. The content herein is as originally written, although Foster structured Becker's suggestions with subheadings so each section speaks to a specific set of strategies.
