A Huge Responsibility: Three Keys to Teaching Elementary Students
Davison, Leslie
Learning Languages, v20 n1 p12-13 Fall-Win 2014
Based on her 20 years of teaching Spanish, Leslie Davison strives for a holistic approach to teaching and learning that is authentic and relevant to her young language learners. Herein, she shares three keys to teaching elementary level students in a way that ensures they will have a "Can Do" attitude in terms of language proficiency and global awareness: (1) Word Choice (focus on age-appropriate language that students actually use in English); (2) Stories (storytelling is a powerful vehicle for making content stick and putting language in context); and (3) Let "Them" Create (focus on high frequency words and giving students choice and freedom).
