Surveillance Cameras and Their Use as a Dissecting Microscope in the Teaching of Biological Sciences

Surveillance cameras are prevalent in various public and private areas, and they can also be coupled to optical microscopes and telescopes with excellent results. They are relatively simple cameras without sophisticated technological features and are much less expensive and more accessible to many people. These features enable them to be used in education, especially in practical classes in the field of biological sciences. The equipment has great potential for use in interactive science museums and enables visitors to observe small objects (e.g., insects, plants, etc.). This report describes the construction of a device to capture macrotelevision images with a surveillance camera for use in the teaching of biological sciences and/or for interactive science museum exhibits.
