Makerspaces: The Next Iteration for Educational Technology in K-12 Schools
Strycker, Jesse
Educational Technology, v55 n3 p28-32 May-Jun 2015
With the continually growing number of computers and mobile devices available in K-12 schools, the need is dwindling for dedicated computer labs and media centers. Some schools are starting to repurpose those facilities into different kinds of exploratory learning environments known as "makerspaces". This article discusses this next iteration of educational technology in K-12 schools: the growth of computing options in schools, the "maker" movement, and its entry into education. The author then considers some of the questions regarding pedagogy in such spaces.
