Can the Brain Catch Up?
Tizard, Jack
World Health, 10-15, Feb-Mar 74
The evidence points to the great importance of intra-uterine life and the first two years of childhood for brain growth and development. Follow-up studies of children hospitalized for severe clinical malnutrition in the first two years of life indicate that the ill effects of malnutrition persist; however, their consequences for growth and behavioral development are greatly influenced by the quality of the environment.
