The Changing Roles of Leadership and Management in Educational Administration
Dembowski, Frederick
International Journal of Educational Leadership Preparation, v1 n1 Jan-Jun 2006
There has been much debate on the topic of "leadership," "management," and "administration"--particularly regarding the roles of leadership and management--with leadership being thought of positively, and management being thought of negatively. This introductory chapter presents an overview of these topics with a focus on the roles of leadership and management within the context of educational organizations. The links between "leadership," "management," and "administration" are discussed, and the conditions under which they are needed are considered. Recommendations for the future roles of these functions in both educational organizations and in training programs are provided.
