Martinez, Monica; McGrath, Dennis
State Education Standard, v15 n2 p15-20 May 2015
Learners of all types can see achievement gains when schools remake themselves as centers of deeper learning. This article highlights eight schools that may be pointing the way to how the nation can finally close the gaps for Latino and black students in beginning and finishing college degrees: (1) King Middle School (Portland, Maine); (2) MC[superscript 2] STEM High School (Cleveland, Ohio); (3) Rochester High School (Rochester, Indiana); (4) Science Leadership Academy (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania); (5) Avalon School (St. Paul, Minnesota); (6) Casco Bay High School (Portland, Maine); (7) Impact Academy of Arts & Technology (San Francisco-Oakland area, California); and (8) High Tech High (San Diego, California).
