Back to the Future: Professional Development
Cox, Marge
Knowledge Quest, v43 n4 p46-53 Mar-Apr 2015
As an educator for thirty-four years, the author describes several great changes she has seen in the field of education since she started in the 1970s. The author gives advice to educators just beginning their careers. Old and new ways of receiving professional development are explained along with the limitations and benefits of these options. Face-to-face experiences provide wonderful opportunities to interact and learn. However, the new options enabled by technology offer possibilities that previous educators couldn't have imagined. Educators can learn from people literally around the world and in real time. The author suggests that educators choose those things that make them smarter and help them provide better services to their staff and students.
