Teaching Film and Filmmaking in a Second Language
Levine, Alison J. Murray
New Directions for Teaching and Learning, n141 p67-75 Spr 2015
This chapter describes a pedagogical approach that blends theory and practice in upper-level French film classes, but the objectives, design, and assignments are applicable to many contexts in which instructors might want to engage with visual material. Reading, viewing, writing, lecture, and discussion combine with practical filmmaking workshops in French in the exploration of historical, social, philosophical, and esthetic questions raised by film and video, and students improve language skills as well as expanding their creativity and problem-solving skills.
