Preparing Elementary Teachers as Global Citizenship Educators

This article reports action research conducted to inform my practice and contribute to the emerging discussion of preparing teachers for global citizenship education. Building on the literature on global citizenship and teacher education, I developed, taught, and reflected on an elementary social studies methods course that aimed to assist my students to become citizenship educators. Based on analysis of multiple data sources and my reflections, I discuss the possibilities and limitations of a single-course approach to educating teachers for an era of globalization.
