Supporting Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students in the Schools
Gibbons, Elizabeth M.
Contemporary School Psychology, v19 n1 p46-53 Mar 2015
Deafness represents an educational disability that is fundamentally tied to a student's sense of cultural and linguistic identity. In addition to contributing to educational planning and programming for deaf-and-hard of hearing (D/HH) students, school psychologists have the responsibility to foster and affirm identity development among this population. This article provides information on the unique cultural and linguistic characteristics of D/HH students and offers guidance on how best to promote their academic and social success.
